Bike Commuting Again

This morning I got on my Raleigh C700 and rode to the bus. Unbelievable. I am so out of shape.

I had forgotten how much I love riding my bike. In some strange way, the winter months dulled my memories of last summer. But this year I commit to riding as far into the fall as possible. The goddess willing, I will ride throughout the upcoming winter.

On a whim I bicycled home via Packard Road. What struck me the most was how all of us – motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists – were completely unaware of one another. I made every attempt to use the time on my bike to wake up to my surroundings and acknowledge the pedestrians and motorists who did see me and made their way for me.

I look forward to more riding days.

My essay collection, Moxie, Vol. 1, will be released later this year.
