Excerpted from my daily writing:
I don’t remember ever wanting to write until I began to transition into manhood. The need to explain myself to myself overwhelmed me. Tracy Baim gave me the opportunity to write, so I did. The page and my life were blank. I filled them with words that became stories.
That is why I like gender stories. That’s how I first made sense of my gender and my choices. As a series of stories. They have changed over the years and are now open for revision. But that act of making sense has been about making stories.
That is where I learned to write, and why. I had to. Otherwise I fear others would have chosen my stories for me. Or worse, I would have chosen their stories over mine.
